Community Resources

Ability Centre Support Service

The Ability Centre can offer a centre based and outreach service to adults aged between 16 and 65 who have a physical disability, based on assessed eligible need. A variety of occupational, educational and therapeutic opportunities are available daily within the Ability Centre and each Outreach Group determines their own programme. Pre-employment skills, preparation and support is offered through the Supported Employment Service.

Aftercare Service

The Aftercare Service has a duty to provide advice, guidance, and assistance to eligible young people aged 16 to 19 who are residents of West Lothian (or were when they were looked after) and are defined as care leavers. The aim of Aftercare is to break down the barriers that prevent young people from moving into independence, employment, education or training and we work with other organisations to achieve this aim.

Chill out Zone Bathgate

Chill Out Zone (COZ) is a healthy living centre based in Bathgate for young people aged 12 to 20 in West Lothian.

DASAT

The Domestic and Sexual Assault Team (DASAT) provides a specialised service to Adults and Children in West Lothian who are experiencing, or have experienced domestic abuse, gender- based violence and provides support to victims of sexual violence.

Hype

HYPE is a skills based programme open to 16 – 19 year olds, who have an Activity Agreement to re-engage with learning. An Activity Agreement is a plan of learning and activity which a Trusted Professional will support a young person to construct, so that when they are ready, they can progress from this to further education, training or employment. It can include volunteering, short courses, supported learning and practical work experience.

Inclusion and Support Service

The Inclusion and Support Service brings together existing teams from Education and Social Policy to support children, young people and families with additional support needs. The service includes the Inclusion and Wellbeing Service, who provide educational support from their Early Intervention and Secondary Teams for children and young people aged 0-18.  

Listen & Link

Listen & Link is an early intervention phoneline service for children, young people and families who have concerns for the mental wellbeing of a child or young person in their household. Or, the child or young person may be worried about their own mental wellbeing. The service is operated by 4 family support workers within Children and Families.

PASDA

Pasda offers support to parents, partners, siblings and carers of adults (over 16) on the autism spectrum who live in Edinburgh and the Lothians.

Smile Counselling

Smile counselling is a service for young people aged 11-24 in West Lothian. Their primary goal is to help young people get to a good place in their lives where they feel Supported, Motivated, Inspired, Leading to self-determination and Empowered to make their own positive choices.

Supporting Children and Young People at Risk of Self-Harm:
Multi-agency Guidance (West Lothian Document)

All agencies who have contact with children and young people have a key role and responsibility in providing support to children and young people who may be at risk of self-harm. This guidance for professionals, aims to provide support to staff working in a variety of settings to help identify children and young people who are or are at risk of self-harm.

Volunteering West Lothian

Volunteer Scotland provide opportunities for volunteering within the West Lothian area.

WILDAS

This service provides counselling & support to young people in West Lothian  aged 12-18 who are using drugs or alcohol at levels which are impacting on family relationships, education, offending or mental health.  Support is also available to young people who are impacted by a family member’s substance use.

Youth Action Project

The youth action project work across West Lothian running a youth work service, peer education, diversion from crime and anti-social behaviour. A befriending service for vulnerable young people, targeted group work programmes, practical training workshops, summer activities and a music project. They will also assist parents/carers and communities that may be experiencing difficulties with young people.
