{"id":1990,"date":"2025-12-10T10:45:48","date_gmt":"2025-12-10T10:45:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/services.nhslothian.scot\/travelclinics\/?p=1990"},"modified":"2025-12-10T10:45:55","modified_gmt":"2025-12-10T10:45:55","slug":"carbon-monoxide-a-hidden-travel-risk","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/services.nhslothian.scot\/travelclinics\/2025\/12\/10\/carbon-monoxide-a-hidden-travel-risk\/","title":{"rendered":"Carbon Monoxide: A Hidden Travel Risk"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Carbon monoxide (CO) is a <strong>colourless<\/strong>, <strong>odourless gas<\/strong> that can be fatal if inhaled, and the risk is not limited to the home. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While often associated with household appliances, CO can also pose <strong>a serious danger when you\u2019re away from home<\/strong> \u2013 particularly in unfamiliar accommodation, tents, caravans or boats where fuel-burning appliances are present or poorly maintained.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Symptoms of CO poisoning \u2013 such as headache, dizziness, nausea, weakness and confusion \u2013 can be mistaken for flu or food poisoning, making early recognition difficult.
