{"id":1533,"date":"2024-03-22T22:27:41","date_gmt":"2024-03-22T22:27:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/services.nhslothian.scot\/travelclinics\/?p=1533"},"modified":"2024-03-22T22:33:33","modified_gmt":"2024-03-22T22:33:33","slug":"jcvi-recommendations-on-dengue-vaccine-published","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/services.nhslothian.scot\/travelclinics\/2024\/03\/22\/jcvi-recommendations-on-dengue-vaccine-published\/","title":{"rendered":"JCVI Recommendations on Dengue Vaccine Published"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>JVCI recommendations on use of Dengue vaccine in the UK were published on 21\/03\/24.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dengue vaccine (Qdenga) is most effective in persons who have experienced previous Dengue infection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The JCVI has recommended that the following groups could be offered the Qdenga\u00ae vaccine:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Individuals aged 4 years of age and older with&nbsp;<strong>confirmed dengue infection in the past<\/strong>&nbsp;who are planning to travel to areas where there is a risk of dengue infection, or areas with an ongoing outbreak of dengue, or are exposed to dengue virus through their work, for example, laboratory staff working with the virus<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Guidance, and a new dengue chapter for the UKHSA \u2018Immunisation against infectious disease\u2019, also known as the \u2018Green Book\u2019 is currently being developed and should be available in the coming weeks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Qdenga\u00ae is contraindicated in:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Pregnant women<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Breastfeeding women<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Immunocompromised individuals&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Those with hypersensitivity to any component of the vaccine<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Children under 4 years of age<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The JCVI do not consider the evidence on efficacy against strains of dengue 3 and dengue 4 strong enough to recommend this vaccine to individuals who have&nbsp;<strong>not&nbsp;<\/strong>previously been infected with dengue fever.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Travellers in these groups who are contraindicated, or who are not recommended to have dengue vaccine should be informed of the risks of dengue and instructed on mosquito avoidance measures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<style>\r\nspan.heady { color: #FFFFFF;
