Carbon monoxide (CO) is a colourless, odourless gas that can be fatal if inhaled, and the risk is not limited to the home.
While often associated with household appliances, CO can also pose a serious danger when you’re away from home – particularly in unfamiliar accommodation, tents, caravans or boats where fuel-burning appliances are present or poorly maintained.
Symptoms of CO poisoning – such as headache, dizziness, nausea, weakness and confusion – can be mistaken for flu or food poisoning, making early recognition difficult. Because CO can build up quickly in enclosed or poorly ventilated spaces, prevention and awareness are key to staying safe while travelling.
