{"id":325,"date":"2022-07-13T15:33:26","date_gmt":"2022-07-13T14:33:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/services.nhslothian.scot\/stroke\/services\/hospital-services\/stroke-tia-clinic-visit\/who-can-refer-me-to-the-clinics\/"},"modified":"2022-07-14T14:33:24","modified_gmt":"2022-07-14T13:33:24","slug":"who-can-refer-me-to-the-clinics","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/services.nhslothian.scot\/stroke\/services\/hospital-services\/stroke-tia-clinic-visit\/who-can-refer-me-to-the-clinics\/","title":{"rendered":"Who can refer me to the clinics?"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Most people will be referred by their GP.<\/li><li>Others are referred by a doctor in the hospital.<\/li><li>People may have attended the A&amp;E department at one of the hospitals or the Eye Pavilion.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><br>The referral process at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh and the Western General Hospital<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The referring doctors will have either:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Phoned the consultant stroke doctor on the Hotline to receive an immediate clinic appointment, or<\/li><li>Written a letter and posted or emailed it, or<\/li><li>Phoned the secretary dealing with appointments.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><br>What happens then?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>The doctor running the clinic will read the letter to ensure that the clinic is the appropriate place to see the patient. Sometimes the referral will be passed on to a more appropriate clinic.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><br>How long will I have to wait for an appointment?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>You will be seen at the first clinic with an available space. Waits vary depending on how many other referrals have been received around the same time.<\/li><li>If your GP has used the Hotline you will usually be seen within&nbsp;four days.<\/li><li>If your GP has written for an appointment you are likely to be seen within a week. If you have not heard from the hospital by one week you should ask your GP surgery to check what has happened.<\/li><li>You will be informed of your appointment time either by post or telephone call.\u200b<\/li><\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Most people will be referred by their GP.
