{"id":306,"date":"2026-03-31T14:25:00","date_gmt":"2026-03-31T13:25:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/services.nhslothian.scot\/rightcare\/minor-injuries-service\/"},"modified":"2026-03-31T14:25:53","modified_gmt":"2026-03-31T13:25:53","slug":"minor-injuries-unit","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/services.nhslothian.scot\/rightcare\/minor-injuries-unit\/","title":{"rendered":"Minor Injuries Unit"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>If you have an injury that you need advice about, you should telephone 111 who will direct your concerns as appropriate:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Provide you with self-care advice<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Attend A&amp;E<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Referral to a nurse within the Flow Navigation Centre for telephone triage<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>If needed and appropriate, you will then be given an appointment at a Minor Injuries Unit. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Alternatively, you may be directed to another care service, such as your local pharmacy or physiotherapy services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The MIU team can help adults and children over 12 months who have a recent minor injury of up to 7 days, including:<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignright size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"400\" height=\"600\" src=\"https:\/\/services.nhslothian.scot\/rightcare\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/49\/2022\/06\/RCRP_NurseStitchHand.jpg\" alt=\"Nurse stitching cut hand\" class=\"wp-image-378\" srcset=\"https:\/\/services.nhslothian.scot\/rightcare\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/49\/2022\/06\/RCRP_NurseStitchHand.jpg 400w, https:\/\/services.nhslothian.scot\/rightcare\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/49\/2022\/06\/RCRP_NurseStitchHand-200x300.jpg 200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>strains and sprains<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>wounds and minor burns<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>minor bumps to head and face<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>simple eye injuries<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>insect bites and stings<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>If you are given an appointment for a video consultation you will be sent a link to open at the time of your appointment which connects you to a member of the healthcare team. To work you will need a reliable internet connection and a smart phone, tablet or computer with a webcam.&nbsp; If you do not have video technology, but need to be seen, you will be given a face-to-face appointment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A face-to-face consultation will be scheduled in advance to prevent long waits when you attend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>An Emergency Nurse Practitioner or Physiotherapy Practitioner will assess your injury, provide advice and treatment within a matter of minutes. A lot of minor injuries can be treated from the comfort of your home or with the help of a local pharmacy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Our minor injury units are open seven days a week every day of the year at the sites listed below.
