{"id":323,"date":"2022-10-13T08:05:43","date_gmt":"2022-10-13T07:05:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/services.nhslothian.scot\/radiology\/arranging-imaging-requested-by-your-gp-primary-care\/"},"modified":"2022-10-13T11:35:08","modified_gmt":"2022-10-13T10:35:08","slug":"arranging-imaging-requested-by-your-gp-primary-care","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/services.nhslothian.scot\/radiology\/arranging-imaging-requested-by-your-gp-primary-care\/","title":{"rendered":"Arranging imaging requested by your GP (primary care)"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>During your consultation, your GP may recommend or request an x-ray to investigate your symptoms or help with a diagnosis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Your\u00a0GP\u00a0will place these\u00a0requests\u00a0electronically but, as the patient, <strong>you<\/strong><strong>\u00a0have to arrange\u00a0<\/strong><strong>the <\/strong><strong>appointment <\/strong><strong>yourself<\/strong>.\u00a0This currently means phoning the relevant X-ray department to arrange an appointment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When the GP makes the x-ray request, you should take the following steps:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Make a copy of your&nbsp;<strong>CHI number<\/strong>&nbsp;(community health index) \u2013 this is how we electronically identify patients in NHS Scotland.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Find out which&nbsp;X-ray department&nbsp;the GP is making the request&nbsp;to&nbsp;and call the relevant number (options listed below).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ask your GP when the earliest&nbsp;is&nbsp;you can call the hospital (this allows time for the request to be placed and processed;&nbsp;usually at least one working day).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Unless your GP advises otherwise, you must phone to arrange the appointment within 30 days (otherwise the request is out of date).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>When you come for your x-ray, we ask that you follow this advice:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Do not arrive before your appointment time, as you will not be allowed access to the department in advance.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Please attend alone (unless you require additional support).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Do not attend if you have any symptoms of Coronavirus infection as per Government advice to help protect others.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Calling to arrange your x-ray appointment<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\">\u200b&#8211; \u200bPATIENTS &#8211; PLEASE CALL MONDAY TO FRIDAY 08.30 TO 16.00 ONLY&nbsp;&#8212;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>East Lothian Community Hospital: \u200b01620 643 732<br>\u200bLauriston Building: 0131 536 2942\u200b<br>\u200bLeith Community Treatment Centre: 0131 536 6400\u200b<br>\u200bMidlothian Community Hospital: 0131 454 1045<br>\u200bRoyal Hospital for Children and Young People: 0131 312 0880 (under 16s only)\u200b<br>Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh\u200b: 0131 242 3700\u200b<br>\u200bSt John&#8217;s Hospital: 01506 524 339 or 01506 524 350\u200b<br>\u200bWestern General Hospital: 0131 537 2054\u200b<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Please see the <a href=\"https:\/\/services.nhslothian.scot\/radiology\/locations\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"326\">Locations page<\/a> for details about how to travel to these hospital sites.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>During your consultation, your GP may recommend or request an x-ray to investigate your symptoms or help with a diagnosis.
