This is used when the whole nail is affected or causing problems.<\/p>\n\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"gb-grid-column gb-grid-column-96296f5a\"><div class=\"gb-container gb-container-96296f5a\"><div class=\"gb-inside-container\">\n\n<h3 id=\"partial-nail-avulsion-pna\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">With Phenol<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-standard-black-color has-text-color has-link-color has-regular-font-size wp-elements-4 wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-style:normal;font-weight:500;letter-spacing:0px\">In most cases, a chemical called Phenol is applied to the nail root after removal to prevent the nail from regrowing. This is the standard approach and has a success rate of around 95%.<\/p>\n\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"gb-grid-column gb-grid-column-de0f5720\"><div class=\"gb-container gb-container-de0f5720\"><div class=\"gb-inside-container\">\n\n<h3 id=\"partial-nail-avulsion-pna\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Without Phenol<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-standard-black-color has-text-color has-link-color has-regular-font-size wp-elements-5 wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-style:normal;font-weight:500;letter-spacing:0px\">In some cases, the nail is removed without Phenol, allowing it to regrow naturally. Consider taking paracetamol before the anaesthetic wears off so it has time to take effect. Avoid aspirin and alcohol as both can delay healing and increase bleeding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"consultation\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Yellow-green discharge<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Within the first few weeks it is normal for the wound to produce a yellow or green discharge. This is caused by the phenol used during surgery and is not a sign of infection. Do not wipe or clean it away. Simply continue dressing the toe as instructed. It will gradually dry and form a scab.
