Although a person may not need paid carers to help them, many friends and family take on caring roles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A carer is anyone who, without payment, provides help and support to a wife, husband, partner, son, daughter, parent, relative, friend or neighbour, who could not manage without their help.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These people may also need support.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>NHS Lothian lists some of the different places where\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/services.nhslothian.scot\/SupportingCarers\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">help can be found across the region<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.vocal.org.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\">Vocal<\/a>\u00a0is an organisation providing support for carers in Edinburgh and Midlothian.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.coel.org.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\">Carers of East Lothian<\/a>\u00a0also serves that region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Edinburgh council also lists other\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.edinburgh.gov.uk\/info\/20077\/carers\/1133\/carer_support_and_advice\" target=\"_blank\">Carer support and advice<\/a>, including\u00a0activities and support for carers, and contact with their\u00a0carer support team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Parkinson\u2019s UK also has a very strong&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/forum.parkinsons.org.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">online community and forum<\/a>&nbsp;where you can take part in online discussions and seek answers to questions.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/forum.parkinsons.org.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"310\" height=\"27\" src=\"https:\/\/services.nhslothian.scot\/parkinsonsservices\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/103\/2022\/12\/Pics-PDUK_Forum.png\" alt=\"Parkinson's UK: Forum\" class=\"wp-image-531\" srcset=\"https:\/\/services.nhslothian.scot\/parkinsonsservices\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/103\/2022\/12\/Pics-PDUK_Forum.png 310w, https:\/\/services.nhslothian.scot\/parkinsonsservices\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/103\/2022\/12\/Pics-PDUK_Forum-300x26.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 310px) 100vw, 310px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n<\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Parkinson&rsquo;s disease not only affects a person but those around them.
