Emma Fleming<\/strong>
BSc Professional Practice in Adult Nursing<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I am a Clinical Studies Officer with NHS Lothian and an Honorary Clinical Fellow at the University of Edinburgh. My role centres on the coordination and delivery of clinical research studies in neuroprogressive conditions. I support all stages of the research process, including study set-up and delivery, participant recruitment and retention, data collection and management, regulatory compliance, and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams across clinical and academic settings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I studied Nursing at Napier University, graduating in 2002, and initially specialised in orthopaedic nursing. In 2013, I transitioned into clinical research nursing, joining the Wellcome Trust Clinical Research Facility in Edinburgh, where I gained extensive experience in the delivery and management of clinical studies across a range of therapeutic areas. Through this work, I developed a particular interest in neuroprogressive conditions and, in 2023, joined the Neuroprogressive and Dementia Network (NDN) as a Clinical Studies Officer. I am currently participating in the Principal Investigator Pipeline Programme, further developing my skills and expertise in clinical research leadership, study oversight, and professional practice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The NDN facilitates research across a broad range of neuroprogressive conditions, supporting collaborative efforts to improve understanding, diagnosis, and treatment. My principal research interests focus on Alzheimer\u2019s disease, Huntington\u2019s disease, and Parkinson\u2019s disease. I am particularly interested in how these conditions develop and progress over time, with the aim of contributing to earlier diagnosis, improved approaches to care and treatment, and ultimately developing effective treatments to slow or halt disease progression.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n
