It is rarely due to a serious problem or damage. Sometimes, especially if the pain is accompanied by tingling or numbness, it might be caused by a nerve. Movement type exercises can be helpful in early stages to try and get things moving. Aerobic exercise, or anything that gets you out of breath, is also helpful, especially if you have nerve pain in your arm. As you feel able, strengthening of the head and neck can also be beneficial, especially if you have neck pain that has lasted a long time.
