The department is based at the Royal Infirmary, St John\u2019s and the Western General Hospitals, from which Medical Physics staff provide an area service to Lothian and Fife. Within the University Hospitals Division of Lothian Health, Medical Physics has close links with Oncology Physics staff and with Medical Physics in the University of Edinburgh.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The role of physicists and engineers in the NHS is to facilitate the introduction of new clinical technology and scientific methods into healthcare and to ensure their safe and effective use.
