{"id":512,"date":"2026-02-10T11:54:00","date_gmt":"2026-02-10T11:54:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/services.nhslothian.scot\/gps\/?page_id=512"},"modified":"2026-02-10T17:29:37","modified_gmt":"2026-02-10T17:29:37","slug":"walk-in","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/services.nhslothian.scot\/gps\/walk-in\/","title":{"rendered":"Walk in Clinic"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>A GP led walk-in clinic is available at the <a href=\"https:\/\/maps.app.goo.gl\/qwqt4f3BuxYCVsjd8\">Wester Hailes Healthy Living Centre<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is a pilot service run by NHS Lothian and Edinburgh Health &amp; Social Care Partnership.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is the first in a network of 15 GP walk in services being funded by the Scottish Government to improve access to primary care.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Who can use the service?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At this time, the service is only available to patients registered with a group of local GP practices in southwest Edinburgh that regularly work together, including:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Gilmore Medical Practice<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Leven Medical Practice<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Sighthill Green Medical Practice<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Sighthill Red Medical Practice<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Slateford Medical Practice<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Springwell Medical Practice<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Whinpark Medical Practice<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Wester Hailes Medical Practice<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Access is being limited initially to ensure the service is safe and effective for patients and staff, but patient demand will be regularly reviewed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Please note<\/strong>: the walk-in clinic <em>is not suitable<\/em> for pregnant patients, or children under 5. They should continue to consult their usual GP or other health professional.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>How the service works<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Eligible patients can use the walk-in clinic if they have an urgent health concern and cannot attend their usual GP practice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is open every day from 12 noon to 8pm &nbsp;&#8211; no appointment needed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Depending on clinical need, you may see a GP or Advanced Nurse Practitioner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Physiotherapy services will also be available in the future.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>You can use this service for things like:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>New pain, rashes or fever<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>New coughs, throat, ear or chest infections<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Urgent bladder or urine problems<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Urgent women\u2019s health issues (e.g. period problems, vaginal infections)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Urgent skin conditions (e.g. infections, eczema)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>New stomach problems<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>New muscle, joint or back pain<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>This service is <em>not <\/em>for:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Medical emergencies<\/strong> (<em>e.g. chest pain, severe bleeding or severe breathing difficulties \u2013 call <strong>999<\/strong><\/em>)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Minor injuries<\/strong> (<em>e.g. sprains, minor burns \u2013 call <strong>111<\/strong><\/em>)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Long-term or pre-diagnosed conditions<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Repeat prescriptions or medicines reviews<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Routine sexual health checks<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Sick notes (fit notes)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Travel vaccinations<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>If you attend with a condition that is not urgent or is better treated elsewhere, staff will redirect you to the most appropriate service.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Get the right care in the right place<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can often get help more quickly by:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Visiting <strong>NHSinform.scot<\/strong> for online advice on minor ailments and local services<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Going to your local <strong>pharmacy<\/strong> first for minor illnesses<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Calling your <strong>dentist<\/strong> for dental problems and <strong>optician<\/strong> for eye problems<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Contacting your <strong>GP practice<\/strong> for routine or urgent care during normal opening hours<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Calling <strong>111<\/strong>, day or night, for minor injuries and out-of-hours advice<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Calling <strong>999<\/strong> or attending <strong>A&amp;E<\/strong> in a critical emergency<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>More information is available at <a href=\"https:\/\/services.nhslothian.scot\/rightcare\/\">right care, right place<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A new walk-in clinic is available for eligible patients registered with a group of GP practices in and around Wester Hailes.
