{"id":358,"date":"2025-11-05T12:32:00","date_gmt":"2025-11-05T12:32:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/services.nhslothian.scot\/geneticservice\/solid-tissue-service\/"},"modified":"2025-11-05T13:07:28","modified_gmt":"2025-11-05T13:07:28","slug":"solid-tissue-service","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/services.nhslothian.scot\/geneticservice\/solid-tissue-service\/","title":{"rendered":"Solid Tissue Service"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The Solid Tissue section provides a diagnostic&nbsp;service mainly for products of conception, stillbirth and IUD.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Samples are analysed initially by&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/services.nhslothian.scot\/geneticservice\/cytogenomic-tests\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"356\">QF-PCR<\/a>&nbsp;and then if appropriate by&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/services.nhslothian.scot\/geneticservice\/cytogenomic-tests\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"356\">Microarray<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Referral Criteria<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Any fetus, stillbirth or neonatal death with congenital abnormality suggestive of a chromosome anomaly or with neural tube defect or with IUGR (&gt;12 weeks).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Abnormal ultrasound scan, including hydatidiform mole and \u201cblighted ovum\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Known familial chromosome rearrangements<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Third or more miscarriage (&lt;12 weeks)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>IVF pregnancy loss (discuss with lab first)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Samples<strong>&nbsp;must<\/strong>&nbsp;be sent for post mortem examination by the Pathology laboratory, Royal Infirmary, Little France.  Biopsies will be taken by the Paediatric Pathologist who will forward to Cytogenetics if appropriate.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><mark style=\"background-color:#ffffff\" class=\"has-inline-color has-alert-red-color\"><strong>NOTE:  If the  mandatory information sections within the Solid Tissue referral form are not completed fully, the sample may be rejected by the laboratory.<\/strong><\/mark><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Tissue Biopsies&nbsp;for&nbsp;Metabolic&nbsp;Studies<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>The laboratory no longer accepts samples for culture and dispatch to other laboratories for metabolic studies.
