{"id":3,"date":"2024-11-01T11:09:00","date_gmt":"2024-11-01T11:09:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/services.nhslothian.scot\/earrecon\/?page_id=3"},"modified":"2026-02-23T11:28:15","modified_gmt":"2026-02-23T11:28:15","slug":"home","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/services.nhslothian.scot\/earrecon\/","title":{"rendered":"Ear Reconstruction &amp; Atresia Service"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The&nbsp;Ear Reconstruction &amp; Atresia service&nbsp;is&nbsp;the only&nbsp;team&nbsp;in Scotland dedicated to the care of&nbsp;children and adults with congenital or&nbsp;acquired problems of&nbsp;the outer and middle ear.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Our children&#8217;s service is based at the Royal Hospital for Children and Young People (RHCYP) in Edinburgh, with our\u00a0adult service based at St John&#8217;s Hospital in Livingston. We also provide outreach\u00a0clinics in Glasgow Royal Infirmary, The Royal Hospital for Children in Glasgow and Ninewells Hospital in Dundee.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Our service provides support, advice and treatment&nbsp;to patients from the whole of Scotland.&nbsp;We do our best&nbsp;to make it as easy as possible to access our service through our outreach clinics. However,&nbsp;all surgical&nbsp;treatment is carried out at either the children&#8217;s hospital in Edinburgh or if you are over 16, St John&#8217;s Hospital in Livingston .<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Our service is&nbsp;funded by the National Services Division of&nbsp;NHS Scotland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Aims of the Service<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>To provide specialist support,&nbsp;care and treatment to&nbsp;children and adults living with microtia &amp; atresia or acquired defects of the outer ear.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>To help patients and their families cope with the impact that&nbsp;having a&nbsp;visible difference or loss of hearing&nbsp;can have.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>To provide easy and timely access to our service.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>To provide reconstructive surgery and hearing aid implantation to those that need it.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Between appointments, our&nbsp;patients can access&nbsp;the team by contacting our specialist nurse, service co-ordinator or corresponding ward.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-28f84493 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>Our&nbsp;<strong>child&nbsp;<\/strong>out-patient clinics are held at the following&nbsp;times:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Edinburgh &#8211;&nbsp;every 4th&nbsp;Wednesday of the month&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Glasgow &#8211; every 2nd Wednesday of the month<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dundee &#8211; twice a year<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>Our&nbsp;<strong>adult&nbsp;<\/strong>out-patient clinics are held&nbsp;at&nbsp;the following&nbsp;times:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Edinburgh &#8211;&nbsp;every 1st&nbsp;Wednesday of the month&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Glasgow &#8211; every 2nd Wednesday of the month<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dundee &#8211;&nbsp;twice a year<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The&nbsp;Ear Reconstruction &amp; Atresia service&nbsp;is&nbsp;the only&nbsp;team&nbsp;in Scotland dedicated to the care of&nbsp;children and adults with congenital or&nbsp;acquired problems of&nbsp;the outer and middle ear.&nbsp; Our children&rsquo;s service is based at the Royal Hospital for Children and Young People (RHCYP) in Edinburgh, with our&nbsp;adult service based at St John&rsquo;s Hospital in Livingston.
