{"id":567,"date":"2022-02-07T23:23:48","date_gmt":"2022-02-07T23:23:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/services.nhslothian.scot\/carehomes\/education-and-training\/medicines-management\/"},"modified":"2023-02-08T11:02:28","modified_gmt":"2023-02-08T11:02:28","slug":"medicines-management","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/services.nhslothian.scot\/carehomes\/education-and-training\/medicines-management\/","title":{"rendered":"Medicines Management"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div class=\"wp-block-group has-light-accent-green-background-color has-background\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container is-layout-flow wp-block-group-is-layout-flow\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\">The primary care pharmacy team have prepared the following training materials for Care Home staff to access, in order to help with medicines management training in Care Homes.&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-regular-font-size\" style=\"font-style:normal;font-weight:400\">The following three types of training material have been provided:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Baseline Training<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Refresher Training<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Bespoke Training<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group has-light-accent-grey-background-color has-background\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container is-layout-flow wp-block-group-is-layout-flow\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Baseline Training<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-regular-font-size\" style=\"font-style:normal;font-weight:400\">This training material includes a narrated presentation and an accompanying workbook.&nbsp; The training covers:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>an introduction to medicines<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>how to administer different forms of medication and how to record this.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>how to support people taking medication, including side effects to medication and administering medication covertly.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>medication in older people and compliance aids.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-regular-font-size\" style=\"font-style:normal;font-weight:400\">This material was originally developed for use within the City of Edinburgh Council (CEC) care homes but has now been adapted for all care homes across Lothian.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The narrated presentation and completion of the accompanying workbook should take 3 to 4 hours to complete. The accompanying workbook must be completed during the presentation. Listeners will be asked to pause the presentation while completing the relevant workbook activities, which are designed to consolidate learning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Please be aware that at the time of producing the material, CEC care homes are using paper MAR charts, which will be evident during the presentation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/laC8g5NYgGE\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Access to the&nbsp;narrated presentation&nbsp;can be found&nbsp;here<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/services.nhslothian.scot\/carehomes\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/31\/2022\/03\/Feb-2021-Care-home-generic-workbook.docx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Accompanying workbook&nbsp;to be completed along with the narrated presentation<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/services.nhslothian.scot\/carehomes\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/31\/2022\/03\/Answer-sheet-for-work-book.docx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Answer sheet&nbsp;for activities in the workbook<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Please ensure that the evaluation questions at the end of each session are completed to identify any gaps in knowledge.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group has-light-accent-grey-background-color has-background\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container is-layout-flow wp-block-group-is-layout-flow\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Refresher Training<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-regular-font-size\" style=\"font-style:normal;font-weight:400\">The following shorter narrated presentation is aimed at CEC care homes but can be useful for other care homes too. It focuses on administering of medicines and record keeping and is meant for staff needing to refresh their knowledge. It will mention specific CEC policy and procedures.
