Health and Social Care Support Workers<\/h2><div id=\"ac-110040\" class=\"c-accordion__content\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-group has-light-accent-grey-background-color has-background\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Health and Social Care Support Workers Intended Learning outcomes:<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>By the end of the learning session the participants will:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Describe the requirements needed for patient consent.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Demonstrate knowledge of the anatomy and physiology of the venous, arterial and nervous systems of the upper limbs.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Identify the appropriate sites for venepuncture and critically examine rationale for choice.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Identify the laboratory requirements for the routine tests in venepuncture.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Explore complications that may arise during or after venepuncture and outline specific actions to minimise these risks or deal with complications.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Demonstrate venepuncture in a safe &amp; competent manner using Aseptic Non-Touch technique (ANTT), being aware of accountability and responsibility in relation to the procedure.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Demonstrate service user comfort, caring and dignity during the procedure.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Demonstrate knowledge relating to the NHS Lothian Policy on the handling of body fluids and the safe handling &amp; disposal of sharps, Exposure Prone Procedures (EPP) and needle stick policy.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Outline appropriate action when a maximum of 2 attempts at venepuncture are not successful<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-pb-accordion-item c-accordion__item js-accordion-item no-js\" data-initially-open=\"false\" data-click-to-close=\"true\" data-auto-close=\"true\" data-scroll=\"false\" data-scroll-offset=\"0\"><h2 id=\"at-110041\" class=\"c-accordion__title js-accordion-controller\" role=\"button\">Venepuncture and Cannulation &#8211; Registered Nurses<\/h2><div id=\"ac-110041\" class=\"c-accordion__content\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-group has-light-accent-grey-background-color has-background\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<p>&nbsp;Registered Nurse learning outcomes:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Knowledge of venous, arterial, and nervous anatomy &amp; physiology of the upper\/lower arm<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Rationale for site selection for venepuncture &amp;\/or PVC<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Appropriate knowledge of aseptic non touch technique (ANTT) throughout procedure<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Understanding of laboratory requirements for routine blood sampling<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Awareness of patient risk factors that increase difficulty of procedure.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Knowledge of complications, and outline actions to reduce risk, or deal with complications.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Importance of gaining patient consent for procedure<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Understanding of NHS Lothian Policies in relation to the procedure<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Empathy for patient comfort, and dignity throughout the procedure<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Current knowledge of venepuncture &amp;\/or PVC to enable the practitioner to achieve competence in performing these skills with an awareness of professional accountability and responsibility<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group has-light-accent-grey-background-color has-background\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Structure of Education Sessions:<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Sessions are delivered by  <a href=\"https:\/\/services.nhslothian.scot\/carehomes\/nhs-lothians-clinical-education-training-team-for-care-homes-cet\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/services.nhslothian.scot\/carehomes\/nhs-lothians-clinical-education-training-team-for-care-homes-cet\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">NHS Lothian Clinical Education Team<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Face to face practical learning session<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Half day course (08.45 &#8211;
