Try to keep your (BMI) Body Mass Index between 19 and 25. BMI is calculated by dividing your weight by the square of your height and you can be easily <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhs.uk\/live-well\/healthy-weight\/bmi-calculator\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">check your BMI online<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If concerned about your weight,&nbsp;whether you are overweight or underweight, then please speak to you cardiac rehab professional or GP who can offer advice and support with setting a realistic weight loss&nbsp;(or&nbsp;weight&nbsp;gain)&nbsp;target for you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"additional-supportthe-nhs-weight-loss-plan-is-a-12-week-programme-you-can-follow\">Additional Support<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nhs.uk\/live-well\/healthy-weight\/start-the-nhs-weight-loss-plan\/\" target=\"_blank\">NHS\u00a0weight\u00a0loss\u00a0plan<\/a>\u00a0is a 12 week programme you can follow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bhf.org.uk\/informationsupport\/support\/taking-control-of-your-weight\" target=\"_blank\">See the British Heart Foundation&#8217;s advice\u00a0on how to achieve your\u00a0weight loss\u00a0aims<\/a>, along with meal planning and shopping tips\u00a0and\u00a0healthy recipe\u00a0suggestions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We work with partners in the Leisure industry who may have programmes available near you. They include Xcite, West Lothian, Edinburgh, Midlothian and East Lothian Leisure clubs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Slimming clubs can be useful offering goal based eating programmes and support.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Your GP or cardiac rehab professional may suggest referral to the NHS Lothian Dietetic service or Lothian Weight Management programme for specialist input.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Being overweight increases the work the heart has to do, causes high blood pressure and leads to abnormal levels of fats in the blood.
