Hollywood and the motion-picture special-effects industry have a lot to do with perpetuating this myth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In recent times for example, the &#8216;<strong>Pirates of the Caribbean<\/strong>&#8216;&nbsp;film franchise features a character&nbsp;<strong>Ragetti<\/strong>, played by actor&nbsp;<strong>Mackenzie Crook<\/strong>, who wears a wooden artificial eye (he dreams of being able to afford a glass one!) which has a tendency to pop out and roll around the deck of the pirate ship for comic effect.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In truth a typical artificial eye is actually much flatter, is more of an oval type of shape and does not \u201cpop\u201d out, being held securely in by the eyelids.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Wrong!
