APPOINTMENT OF LAY MEMBERS TO THE BOARD’S PHARMACY PRACTICES COMMITTEE (PPC)
We are currently looking to add to the “pool” of Lay Member representatives of the Health Board’s Pharmacy Practices Committee (PPC).
The role of the PPC is ‘Control of entry’ i.e. regulating the distribution of community pharmacies across Lothian by working within national regulations to strike the right balance for the provision of pharmaceutical care in different localities.
The lay members of the PPC bring with them local knowledge and a service user’s perspective. They apply these skills to the decision making process of the Committee and ensure that the ‘voice of the public’ is represented.
Key attributes for a lay member of the PPC are as follows:
- local knowledge
- service user’s perspective
- representation of the patient interest
- understanding and interest in the Health Service
- listening skills
- questioning skills
- objectivity
If you are interested to learn more about lay membership of the PPC and if you’re able to provide the level of commitment which is required to fulfil this role, please contact the Primary Care Contracts Team by email loth.communitypharmacycontract@nhs.scot or telephone the PCCO office on 0131 537 8471.
The PPC has a vital role in regulating the provision of pharmaceutical services for the NHS Board and Lay representation is vital to effective decision making.
If your appointment is accepted, you will be given training, which will provide comprehensive information around the practical workings of the Committee, along with the chance to meet key personnel who support the PPC. Please be assured that you will not be asked to sit on a hearing until you are fully comfortable with the processes and the procedures.
